Title: Wetlands Scientist

Description: E2PM is seeking qualified applicants for a Full-Time, Permanent, Wetlands Scientist to work out of the Rockaway or Manasquan, NJ offices. This position is needed to help aid with a range of ongoing and upcoming projects within the various Departments of the firm. This applicant must have a strong background in natural resources, with a focus on wetland delineation and regulatory permitting. Applicants should also have hands-on experience in leading and conducting wetland delineations and proficiency in data collection and analysis. Applicants must be familiar with delineation protocols set by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to identify wetlands, delineate wetland boundaries, classify wetlands based on readily available documentation, and design, implement and monitor wetland restoration, enhancement and mitigation projects. In addition, Applicants should have a working knowledge of the NJDEP Division of Land resource Protection (DLRP) as well as the USACE permitting processes and know how to upload applications to NJDEP’s on-line portal. Experience with monitoring construction projects for general environmental compliance and rare species is preferred and conducting rare species surveys would be ideal for consideration. The ideal candidate would also have experience with wetlands mitigation/restoration design or oversight for a range of projects.
Responsibilities would include:
- Conduct field wetland delineations and habitat assessments.
- Identify and classify wetland vegetation, hydric soils, hydrology, and wildlife.
- Prepare and submit applications to NJDEP DLRP (LOI’s / General Permits / Transition Area Waivers / Individual Permits).
- Prepare and submit application to the USACE (Nationwide Permits / Individual Permits).
- Monitor Wetland Enhancement, Restoration, and Mitigation projects, collect data, and prepare monitoring reports.
- Monitor projects during construction to ensure compliance with permit conditions.
- Conduct rare species surveys for any number of rare species (experience with bog turtles and venomous snakes is a plus).
- Prepare Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).
Requirements (education, licensing, certifications, etc.):
- BS degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in wetland delineation and permitting.
- Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) Certification preferred, but not required.
- Proven experience in conducting wetland delineations.
- Knowledge of wetland regulations and permitting processes.
- Experienced in biological habitat surveys for listed and non-listed plant and animal species.
- Experience with invasive species surveys.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work outdoors and in inclement weather. Walk/hike in rugged or rough terrain if needed.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Project Specific Safety Training will be provided, as necessary.
- Company drug and alcohol policies shall be strictly followed.
- Ability to travel on an as needed basis. Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
